For example, a screwdriver works better for assembling a patio furniture table set for outdoors compared to an impact driver, but you wouldn’t dream of driving deck screws with a screwdriver. Batteries Can Be a Hassle, But Hand Tools Can Be Exhausting 

Many hand tool purists like to rave about the battery-free nature of a good old-fashioned hammer, screwdriver, or wrench. It’s true. Power tools require batteries (or power cords), and without power, the tools are useless. But hand tools can be exhausting, especially for repetitive tasks like assembling all the parts in your new patio garden table and chairs. Both have their trade-offs in terms of energy required, so power tools and hand tools are fairly equal in this regard.

Precision vs. Power 

Hand tools win out in the category of precision and control. They can get into tight spaces, let you control the torque as you physically turn a screwdriver, and are ideal for smaller-scale projects. On the other hand, power tools can make setting up a shower sliding door much faster. They are not only faster but also more efficient, so you don’t spend all day driving screws or cutting wood by hand.

Cost Considerations 

The upfront cost of power tools can make beginner DIYers balk. Hand tools are likely better for those just getting started in the DIY world, especially as they can be safer and easier to use, not to mention cheaper. Power tools, however, can save time, reduce the labor needed to complete a project, and are great for repetitive tasks. While the price tag might shock you, tools should always be considered an investment, and if you take care of them, they’ll take care of you for years to come.
